Alicia's Philosophy

My work is rooted in a simple belief: people deserve to feel powerful, informed, and steady in their own birth experience. Pregnancy and labor are not identical from one person to the next, and support should never be one-size-fits-all. My role is to help you trust yourself while building the kind of birth experience that feels aligned with your values, your body, and your circumstances.

I have had the privilege of giving birth to my own children and of carrying for another family as a surrogate. Moving through different pregnancies and birth environments shaped the way I understand this work. I have experienced firsthand how transformative it feels to be supported by someone who is calm, informed, and fully present. It was during those seasons that I developed a deep respect for the culture of birth and for the resilience that lives within every birthing person.

At the same time, I know that birth can feel uncertain or even frightening. Not just for you, but for your partner and the people who love you. My presence is meant to steady that uncertainty. I help you slow down, sort through information, and make decisions with clarity rather than pressure.

I believe deeply in knowledge, choice, and informed consent. Some clients come in knowing exactly what they want, and my role is to reinforce their confidence and provide skilled physical and emotional support. Others arrive feeling unsure, overwhelmed, or caught between competing advice. In those moments, I offer unbiased, evidence-based resources and help you prepare thoughtful questions for your medical provider. Sometimes I am simply a sounding board, a steady presence while you process fears, hopes, and possibilities.

No matter where you are starting from, you deserve support that honors your autonomy and your humanity. Birth is powerful and deeply personal. It is an honor to stand alongside families as they welcome new life and step into a new version of themselves.

About Me Personally

I have been married to my wonderfully supportive husband since 2009. Together we have created a life that I never imagined I would be living. We have three beautiful children that breathe such life into our home. Between the three of them, our dog, three cats, two chinchillas, and whatever creature our son has adopted for the day, our home is overflowing with life. And while I constantly have to tap into a previously unknown source of patience, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Professional Training

I received training from ICEA and DONA, and am certified with ProDoula. Previous to my work as a Doula, I worked as a Peer Counselor and Advocate for a nonprofit organization, supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, which provided me with the tools to specialize in supporting birthing people who have experienced trauma. I make sure that informed consent is a priority throughout pregnancy and birth.

Why a Backup Doula Matters

Birth is unpredictable—having a trusted backup doula ensures that no matter when your labor begins, you’ll be supported by someone aligned with our shared values, approach, and philosophy of care. It's not just about having a warm body—it’s about continuity, trust, and competence.

I’m thrilled to call Jen Anderson my backup doula. Jen is a Nurse, Educator, Doula, Photographer, and Mother whose heart-centered, evidence-based approach mirrors my own. If I’m ever unable to attend your birth, you’ll be in incredibly capable, compassionate hands.
